Benefits of the funeral plan and what is included

The plan is fully flexible and can be used for cremation or burial so there is no need to choose which you'd prefer straight away

  • The plan is transferable to another family member if required
  • If at a later date you decide you don't require the plan you can receive a full refund after three years

 - Single payment
 - Pay over 12 months
 - Pay over 10 years (linked to life insurance)

A number of plans are now available from under £2000

The basic difference between the plans is the number of additional cars involved although there are other benefits with the more expensive plans

The full plan covers:

Funeral Director's charges and advice

  • Advice on Certification and Registration of the death
  • Transport of the deceased to a resting place (available 24 hours)
  • If death occurs local to the deceased's home to a funeral home within a 15 mile radius
  • If death occurs away from home the deceased will be transferred to the local funeral home from anywhere in Great Britain
  • Funeral director's fees and services, including advice on all additional arrangements
  • Provision of the funeral service and arrangements
  • Care, preparation and embalming of the deceased
  • Fully lined and fitted real wood finish coffin
  • Hearse and relevant funeral directors personnel
  • One following limousine and relevant funeral directors personnel
  • Funeral procession from the home to crematorium or place of burial
  • Provision by the funeral director of a full list of the names of people who have donated flowers

  • Support and assistance

  • Visits to the chapel of rest
  • Sympathetic and confidential advice from the funeral director
  • Advice on all matters relating to the funeral
  • When the plan is purchased a donation of £2.00 is made to the Woodland Trust
  • To date Golden Charter has helped the Woodland Trust plant over 200,000 trees

  • Limitations

    Certain charges are not in the direct control of the funeral director such as:

  • Doctors' fees
  • Clergy fees
  • Crematorium & burial plot fees
  • An allowance is provided for, within the plan, to accommodate these costs. The allowance is based on the national average and is currently set at £815 (Jan 2011).

    What the plan does not cover:

  • Funeral processions to multiple venues
  • Purchase of, or contribution towards purchase of, a burial plot
  • Additional third party charges over and above the allowance
  • Return travel back to home in the limousine
